Refuse Workers Strike Action Ballot

From The Argus:

More bin strikes could be on the cards in Brighton and Hove as refuse workers are left frustrated by the reorganisation of rounds.

The GMB union announced yesterday that they intend to ballot on strike action in the city.

Yesterday the GMB Sussex Branch tweeted: “Today we inform Brighton and Hove City Council our intention to ballot for industrial action on refuse and recycling.”

They said the reason for the ballot was “the repeated failure to consult with the workforce on the round reorganisation that’s causing chaos in the city”.

They also tweeted: “We have written to the chief exec today and given until Friday to meet or seek resolution before starting the official process.”

This announcement comes after residents were left frustrated by months of problems with refuse collection in the city.

Problems such as broken down vehicles, missed collections and issues with communal recycling bins have been reported as some residents face backlogs of rubbish.
