The Annual General Meeting of Southdown Rise Residents Association took place on Wednesday 13 March at the Open House pub in Springfield Road. The Chair, Rob Rosenthal, gave his report on the achievements of the past year – including a membership that had grown to over 100, establishment of the website and successful communications with the council. Residents also discussed the treasurer’s report and elected a new committee for 2013.
The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Bill Randall addressed the meeting on the importance of community organisations and their impact on the city.
The Minutes of the meeting and reports from the Chair and Treasurer are here
SRRA discussed the proposals and submitted a summary of views to the traffic officers. The comments and officers’ responses are here: SRRA TRO comments March 2013.
The beautiful horse chestnut trees in Springfield Road are threatened by disease, cars and neglect. The road has recently lost four trees but the total lost will probably be more. The residents committee has worked hard and the council has firmly promised replacements for these four, by April 2013.
The new trees will need to be looked after so that they thrive. SRRA is looking for tree champion volunteers – a volunteer guardian for every tree.
